Mercedes Mone was so traumatized by her injury last year that she cannot watch the video back.

The former Sasha Banks suffered serious injury last year during a match against Willow Nightingale for NJPW. This injury kept her out of the ring for the past ten months. She was present at Wembley Stadium for All In, but did not wrestler. Her future remained unclear until she debuted for AEW at Big Business, which shut down any speculation over a return to the WWE.

Mercedes spoke with ESPN to talk all about her injury troubles before her AEW debut. The former Sasha Banks revealed that she cannot watch her injury back, and labelled her recovery as “the hardest time of my life”.

“I can’t watch that video back. It scares me. It makes me nervous. I don’t know if I slipped, i don’t know if it was a freak accident. I don’t know if Willow pushed me on purpose, I really don’t know.”

“It was the hardest time of my life. When the injury first happened, I was so in shock. I was so confused. It was like, ‘Oh, wait, no,’ because I was on a mission. I had so many goals of going to Mexico, the [United Kingdom], Japan, all over the United States. We were preparing for so much. But I think maybe my body and the universe was just like, ‘Maybe you’re just going a little too fast. Maybe you need to slow down. You’re not done healing inside.'”

Mercedes Mone’s Injury Was ‘More Than Just An Ankle’

While an ankle injury doesn’t sound that bad, it was much worse for Mone.

The CEO spoke with Renee Paquette on AEW Close Up, revealing that she broke “more than just an ankle”. She also noted that it “hurt more than anything”.

“Well… People think it’s my ankle. Little do they know, it’s more than just an ankle guys. I can hurt a foot. I can hurt more than everything. And if you listen to my new hit Single, ‘CEO’, I actually mention what I broke. So, you can be prepared for that. But it was honestly such a shocking and a shock feeling when that happened.

I was so, on a mission already. When that happened, I was so confused. I was like, ‘Why? Like why? I don’t understand what I did. Why is this happening?’ But I knew I had to go through it and go straight through it. And I know I needed to slow down and heal. Cuz I wasn’t done healing. The universe is saying, ‘Heal, heal heal.’ It is so hard. It’s so hard.”
