WWE Hall of Famer calls for parity in CM Punk punishment

Eric Bischoff wants AEW to take drastic action with Jack Perry. The young AEW star was involved in an altercation with CM Punk at All-In in Wembley. CM Punk has already had his contract terminated for his role in the dispute. Perry is suspended indefinitely.

Speaking on his "83 Weeks" podcast, Bischoff was clear: AEW should fire Perry.

“Just cut the guy [Perry] loose," Bischoff said. "First of all, you’re talking about a thimble full of talent to begin with. He’s really only there because his dad [Luke Perry] was a soap opera star — that’s it. Otherwise, he’s making $200 a night on the indie circuit somewhere. This guy is not a star, he’ll never be a star."

CM Punk is a global wrestling star. Perry is a budding talent within AEW. By Bischoff's thinking, if Tony Khan is willing to cut ties with Punk, who generates serious revenue via gates and merchandise, Perry's dismissal should be easy.

It's not that simple, though. Perry is a pillar of AEW. He was one of the first talents to sign on with the company during its inception. As AEW has grown, so has Perry. There's also a difference in history to consider.

CM Punk has not long returned to the roster following his physical altercation at All-Out 2022 and has few friends within the locker room. Punk also has a reputation for being a disruptive force backstage, in both AEW and WWE. Perry has stayed relatively clean throughout his time with the company.

It makes sense that Bischoff wants a fair and even punishment for both parties. However, CM Punk's history of backstage drama and altercations is what led to his release. For Perry, this is his first major incident and is unlikely to cost him his job.
